David Pflugi created "Formensch" in 2005, after being spontaneously inspired during a stay in Thailand. Formensch can be viewed as both an object and a performance.
During the performance, a group of people disappears entirely within the relief of the object. After being briefly touched by the artist, they come to life again: With slow, hypnotic movements they climb out of the image and start mixing with the observers. In doing so, they leave behind a radically changed artwork with completely new images.
The title of the work is a play on the words "Form" (shape), "formen" (to shape or to sculpt), "Formen" (shapes), and "Mensch" (human or person). The performance has so far been shown in Athens, Berlin, Basel and Frankfurt.
