02.10.2020 Final goodbye: The funeral

Update from October 29th: In accordance with yesterday's new regulations from the Swiss government, the new coronavirus protection measures will be in place at the event. Due to this, the audience will be limited to 50 people. Please reserve a place by Friday, October 30th 4 PM, by telephone or SMS to +41 (0)79 552 82 68.

In October 2013, David relocated to Brazil for just over nine months. During this time, he created his greatest work to date: The eight metres wide sculpture "The Seeds of Victory", which was signed in July 2014 in Rio de Janeiro by all players of the football world cup finalists of that year, Germany and Argentina.

In July 2020, the sculpture was completely destroyed by a fire in the industrial estate where David's studio is situated. Now, David has decided to recreate the sculpture over the coming nine months.

Before the arrival of a new beginning, there must be closure of that which has passed. On October 31st, the remains of the sculpture – which took on the shape of a small child when viewed from one particular angle and was therefore often lovingly referred to as "the baby" – will be buried during a special ceremony. This performance is meant to be a symbolic coming to terms with the tragedy, also for all others who have been affected by it. It will take place under the open sky, in the ruins where great buildings once stood, their remains arranged into a garden of sculptures – works created by the fire.

All members of the public are invited to witness this unusual funeral, and to be part of this final goodbye.
